Serra de Arouca – Arouca Geopark
Northwest of Viseu lies the mountain area called Serra de Arouca. There is a interesting Rota de Geossítios which leads you to unique geological sites, such as stone baring rocks and giant Trilobites. The town of Arouca, on the west side, has a big monastery. The whole mountain area is quite big, and you might have to chose a priority. Our personal favorite is the south part Freita mountain plateau. From the top you can see Porto in the distance, when its clear.
