Casa Adega

Casa ‘Adega’ was built by hand in 1948 with assistance from the whole village. It is completely built from xisto (schist) stone from a local quarry. The stone mason that did all the recent renovation works on the stone walls and one of the villagers were brought up in this house with their siblings. They can tell you that the stones for the house were quarried with home made gunpowder and transported by ox-drawn cart.

The living space of this house is on the first floor. From the balcony and the big windows next to the dining table you can see the magnificent view on the mountain range ‘Serra de Lousã’, some 50 kilometres in the distance. Next to the big, light kitchen with dining table, is a living room that provides entry to three bedrooms, with two bathrooms.

The special feature of this house is the large ‘adega’ (wine cellar) on the ground floor. This 45 square metre room has an enormous table with benches that can host 16 persons easily. The house itself hosts 6 persons, but in the adega you can invite as many friends or locals as you want. The walls of the adega are made with (schist) stone and big, white quartz stones, that are typical for the area. There is a fire place and a toilet.

This house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It can host a maximum of 6 guests. The rent includes use of all communal spaces and the swimming pool.
