Casa Laranjeira

Casa ‘Laranjeira’ (orange tree) is dominated by several very old orange trees, hence the name. In spring the air is filled with the sweet smell of orange blossoms. In summer and autumn you can see the oranges grow and change colour, but it’s in winter that you can actually pick and eat them. The ground floor of the house is at least over a hundred years old, but might be much older. The current first floor has been added some fifty years ago. Until its renovation in 2021 the first floor was the only living space, with a separate kitchen with open fire. The ground floor was used for farm animals and to make and store wine.

The ground floor of the house was built from xisto (schist) stone from a local quarry. Big, white quartz stones, that are typical for the area, have been set in the walls and are clearly visible in the living room. You can reach the first floor by stairs from the living room, as well as stairs outside that lead to the original front door. Through the front door are two bedrooms with a shared bathroom. The third bedroom has its own entrance, where originally the separate kitchen used to be. This bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and on two sides access to a partly covered balcony with magnificent views.

This house has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It can host a maximum of 6 guests. The rent includes use of all communal spaces and the swimming pool.
