Aveiro

The lively city of Aveiro is known for its canals, and is called little Venice. Or Venice is called Big Aveiro. The cobbled stone streets offer lots of little shops, don’t forget to try the Oves Moles (raw egg sweets). The beautifull Museu de Aveiro/Santa Joana is set in an old monastery. Make sure you don’t miss the small old church part at the end of the visit.

Untill 1575 Aveiro was a costal town. Then huge floods left lagunes and sandbanks, which is the reason that Aveiro is now 10 kilometres from the ocean. To see the beach, you have to go to Costa Nova (which means New Coast). The wide boulevard with the colourfull striped wooden houses allong the lagune are breathtaking.
